Overview
National Cultural and Veterans’ Precinct: A Place of Honour, Reflection and Community
The Highfield Military Museum is envisioned as a national‑level cultural precinct, thoughtfully designed to honour service, support rehabilitation, and foster connection between veterans, community and visitors. More than a museum, the project brings together education, reflection and shared experience, creating a place where stories of service are remembered and future generations are inspired.
Grounded in respect and purpose, the design aligns with the Centre’s broader vision for world‑class facilities, flexible community spaces, and a meaningful relationship with the surrounding escarpment landscape.
MUSEUM ARCHITECTURE
Architecture Form Inspired by Air, Land + Sea
The architectural form is shaped by a flowing “ribbon” gesture, symbolising the interconnected forces of Air, Land and Sea — the foundation of military service. This elegant form gently follows the natural contours of the site, allowing the building to sit lightly within the landscape.
As the ribbon undulates across the terrain, it frames curated views, strengthens the connection to Country, and creates a powerful dialogue between the built form and its natural setting.

IMMERSIVE DESIGN EXPERIENCE
Honouring Our Heritage
Internally, the museum concept is experienced as a carefully choreographed journey. Sculpted volumes, framed outlooks and curated pathways guide visitors through moments of discovery, contemplation and remembrance.
The Great Hall anchors the experience, offering generous height and scale for major exhibitions and ceremonial gatherings. Beyond this, more intimate and immersive exhibition zones provide quieter moments of pause — spaces for reflection, tribute and personal connection.
FLEXIBLE MUSEUM DESIGN
Education, Events and Engagement
Designed for adaptability, the Highfield Military Museum concept incorporates flexible gallery spaces, community areas and rehabilitative environments that can evolve over time. This flexibility ensures the precinct can host exhibitions, educational programs, commemorative events and community activities — supporting its role as a living, active cultural destination.
